Project Director: Nicole Belle DeRise

Source of Materials: Tamiment Library & Robert F. Wagner Labor Archives, New York University and University of California at Berkeley

The purpose of this project is to highlight and document a less well known period in Emma Goldman and Alexander Berkman's prolific careers. In 1919 Goldman and Berkman fought for their U.S. citizenship in court and ultimately lost. This site aims to explore the legal case that was brought against them as well as related documents related to their deportation and involvement in the No Conscription League. In addition to primary source documents, the web site will have exhibits and interpretive narratives that will help to contextualize this period.
