Earhart Tagging

Although the site is mainly geared toward children, and perhaps tagging of documents are not completely necessary, in the sake of imagining the site for a broader audience, the pros of tagging outweigh the cons.

Text (personal letters and newspaper articles) will be encoded using TEI P5. As much of the documents on this site are personal letters, the benefits of encoding will be evident in the case of misspellings, abbreviations, illegible print, and casual uses of terms without historical context. As such, no corrections will be made in the transcriptions of handwritten documents, because the purpose of these primary documents is to give children a sense of how historians research and interpret materials.

Images will be presented in a TEI format. Source, title, creator, and date (or approximate date) will be provided.
